As reflected in the poem “Destiny,” Al Marquis has been a lawyer for most of his professional life with the Las Vegas law firm Marquis & Aurbach. But when he was growing up, he was a cowboy. And now, decades later, he is once again enjoying country life at Kingston Ranch in Sandy Valley, 35 miles southwest of Las Vegas.
After the publication of his first poetry book, Frivolous Cowboy Poetry, in 2002, Al has made many personal appearances that have delighted audiences. “Getting a laugh from my poems is what it is all about,” says Al. Although Al is still practicing law-he is now, after having been bucked, bruised and blackballed-in a “semi-retired” status. Whenever not at the office, he is at Kingston Ranch or flying to a destination in his TBM 700.
